Jacob S. Smith joined Henness & Haight in November 2015 as part of the litigation team. His practice includes all aspects of personal injury, including premises liability, car wrecks, products liability and catastrophic injury litigation.

Jake grew up in Southern Utah and attended Dixie State College before transferring to Weber State University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with his Bachelor of Arts. While at Weber State, Jake excelled in the political science department and was awarded a full-tuition scholarship. Jake then attended J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University and graduated with his Juris Doctorate degree in 2006. During law school, Jacob became certified as a mediator, served as a judicial extern to Utah’s Fourth District Court and clerked at a civil litigation firm in Las Vegas.

After passing the bar, Jake spent time at a boutique firm in Las Vegas where he practiced commercial litigation, corporate formations and banking litigation. As a result of the intimate firm size, he had the opportunity to gain immediate courtroom experience, first-chairing a victorious bench trial before Nevada’s Eighth District in his first year of admission to the bar. Prior to joining Henness & Haight, Jake practiced for several years at a prominent Las Vegas insurance defense firm, where his practice was focused primarily on litigating catastrophic injury claims. His time working for insurance companies has provided him with insight and understanding as to how these companies handle their litigation files.

Jake has been recognized by the Nevada Business Journal as one of Southern Nevada’s “Legal Elite,” and has been recognized as either a “Rising Star” or a “Super Lawyer” for the Mountain States region every year since 2010.

In his free time, Jake loves spending time with his wife and children and enjoys playing golf and basketball. He is fluent in Spanish.
