Everyone knows that driving on the Vegas strip is a precarious proposition. Between uncertain traffic signals, distracted and drunken pedestrians and other angry drivers, the risk of accidents is high. Some intersections, however, are worse than others. The Las Vegas police have recently published a list of the five most dangerous intersections in the city and the number of accidents resulting in injury over the last six months of 2014.
Besides their list of the most dangerous intersections in the city, police have also put together a statistical report of the total number of crashes in the city, and the associated traffic fatalities. The good news is that the numbers are way down from the prior year. In fact, the total crashes in Vegas are about 9,000 fewer from 2013, a decrease of 43 percent. The total fatalities are down by almost a fifth. Pedestrian-related fatalities were the highest, forming nearly a third of all auto accident deaths.
After tabulating crashes resulting in injuries over the months of June through December of 2014, the LVPD came up with these five most dangerous intersections in the city: 1. Cheyenne and Rancho: This intersection racked up 12 crashes during the tabulated period. 2. Rainbow and Desert Inn: Ten crashes were recorded at this intersection. 3. Nellis and Washington: This intersection comes up next, with nine accidents noted. 4. Rainbow and Sahara: Fourth on the list, eight auto accidents were tabulated here. 5. Christy and Charleston: This spot tied for the bottom of the top five with eight accidents.
Ten other dangerous intersections in Vegas that seem to perennially rack up injuries from auto accidents are as follows: 1. Decatur Boulevard and Sahara Avenue 2. Sahara Avenue and Arville Street 3. Tropicana Avenue and Paradise Road 4. Decatur Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue 5. Lamb Boulevard and Charleston Boulevard 6. Tropicana Avenue and Koval Lane 7. Charleston Boulevard and Rainbow Boulevard 8. Eastern Avenue and Warm Springs Road 9. Tropicana Avenue and Eastern Avenue 10. Harmon Avenue and Paradise Road
Avoiding dangerous intersections is not always possible. When approaching an intersection you know or even sense may be dangerous, always use extra caution before merging, turning or otherwise engaging your vehicle. If you do end up in an accident, be sure to keep your wits about you. Exchange information with the other driver, take photos and speak with witnesses. Call the police to have an accident report filed. See a doctor if necessary and contact your insurance company. Above all, it never hurts to contact a Las Vegas personal injury and auto accident attorney for a free consultation.
